Engineer by craft. Storyteller by instinct.

Kerim Tapkan, naval architect and author

From shipyards to starships

Born in Istanbul in 1977, Kerim Tapkan is a naval architect, project manager, and science-fiction author. His career has taken him to the United States, Canada, Dubai, and Thailand before returning to Istanbul.

For more than two decades, he has worked on ships, yachts, and complex engineering projects, bringing together technical disciplines, teams, and the decisions that turn drawings into working vessels.

His curiosity about space has accompanied him throughout that career. Questions about distant civilizations, time, and humanity’s place in the universe eventually became the starting point for P.X.

Writing P.X

The ideas behind P.X developed over years. During train journeys home from work, listening to conversations about astronomy and physics helped bring those ideas back into focus. Eventually, carrying the story in his head was no longer enough. He began to write.

What interested him was what would follow first contact: how governments would respond, what another civilization might want, and how ordinary people would find their place in a reality suddenly much larger than their own.

His debut novel, P.X: No Man’s Space, became the opening volume of a trilogy. Around it, the universe continued to grow through the histories and perspectives explored in P.X Untold and the Snorvix Codex.

Building a world people can live in

Engineering influences the way Tapkan constructs fiction. Technologies have consequences. Institutions carry histories. A decision made in one part of a system changes what becomes possible elsewhere.

Writing also taught him where that approach has limits. People carry fears, attachments, and contradictions that cannot be resolved like technical problems. At the center of P.X are families, loyalties, and choices made with incomplete knowledge.

His aim is to create a world with enough depth to reward exploration while allowing its people and their experiences to lead the story.
