Canterbury Plains · Deployment Region
Narrator POV /AA/
Designated construction area selected for scale, isolation, and infrastructural suitability.

The open agricultural landscape that gives Aether Lance its scale and exposure.
Canterbury Plains is the regional setting around the defence project near Christchurch. Open fields, low clouds and strong southerly weather establish the installation’s physical burden. The landscape surrounds the Aether Lance compound and remains distinct from its internal spaces and the Waimakariri testing context.
Selected passages from P.X: No Man’s Space.
“Yes. UN approved Aether Lance. China still push KARS, but vote carried. Construction site at Canterbury Plains, near Christchurch, already active.”
Dawn reached the Canterbury Plains through low, bruised clouds. From five kilometers away, the Aether Lance commanded the horizon, a vertical city of alloy, carbon-fiber trusses, and optical housings, its upper tiers disappearing into the weather. The crews called the southerly the Roar. It tore across the open fields and drove mist through the structure. Storm-break towers ringed the perimeter, their kinetic deflectors turning each gust into pale distortions that traveled across their skins.
At its core rose the central spire: 1.2 kilometers of segmented housings, each containing optical amplifiers the size of subway cars. Cryogenic conduits traced narrow veins up its length; status light climbed with the coolant through each circuit. Lightning found the spire and raced down its segmented shell into buried arrestors. Around it sprawled the compound. Fabrication hangars, drone pads, living quarters, and control hubs spread in concentric order. Three thousand workers occupied the grid at all hours, while tracked haulers and rail carts carried components between decks without pause.
